We are now well into the next decade (yes its not just another year – and it makes me remember that the Millennium celebrations are such a long time ago!) so everything has returned to normal after the hectic disruption of the Christmas Holiday!

Now, I don’t want you to take that comment the wrong way…. I enjoy Christmas and having family with me and the delicious food and the relaxation….
Actually, scrap the relaxation idea – I actually get more rest when the holidays are over and everyone goes back to work/school/their own homes, now I come to think about it! But nevertheless I love having all my friends and family around and being able to chill out for a bit without worrying about my studies or whether Easyjet or Ryan Air are going to lose my luggage again this week!

The weather in December was a bit of a problem, wasn’t it? It messed up some of my travel plans and made it difficult to get the shopping all done in time, but somehow it all managed to fall into place just in the nick of time so we had a good festive holiday, the way it is meant to be. My mother visited as well as lots of friends, so I was doing my “hostess” bit all week and for those of you who know me, you will understand what I mean when I say that I enjoyed being quite well in charge!!!

But now I am back to my studies and back at work, so I am putting the last touches in place to sort out my diary for the next three months or so, and I am planning some fabulous trips again! This year I am going to schedule myself more strictly (uh huh!) and I will be increasing the time I am going to be available in London as well as making more regular short sharp trips to Ireland and Scotland again. I think shorter but more frequent is the order of the day!   That’s enough smirking in the back seats, thank you – my comment had no double entendre intended! So don’t any of you start to think I was describing you, now, will you? As the song says, “it ain’t what you do, its the way that you do it”, and I couldn’t agree more!

But I did have reason to be a little concerned recently when I was in Dublin
Dublin is a city that I have visited several time sbefore, and i thought I was getting to know it quite well. I have found my way to the great shops, and to Temple Bar! I have seen Guinness and Grafton Street and Phoenix Park. And I thought I was beginning to understand the way that this buzzy and energetic city worked
It certainly wasn’t a place that I associated with the old ways of life, with much of the folklore and traditions of times gone by… Dublin seems to be infused with newness and technology and the pace of life is pretty hectic!

But I am wondering…. You see, one evening something very odd happened and I am still trying to work it out in my mind.

I had just had a very enjoyable meeting with a polite gentleman who seemed to be most concerned to make sure that I ended up quivvering all over (thank you J… you know who you are!) and as part of my reward to him for treating me so nicely, I decided that we should play together for a little while with my very new and wonderful pink vibrator. I am not going in to details, but it certainly seems that this was agreed to have been a great idea, and after we finished playing with it, I put the vibrator on the bedside table so that I wouldn’t forget to pack it carefully back in its carry case. Well, later on after J had left, I was clearing up and realised that the vibrator was not there any more.

Had I already moved it and forgotten? I looked for it but could not find it. Had J picked it up and taken it with him? No, he was much to nice to do something like that and anyway, I couldn’t see him wanting to take a bright pink vibrator back to the office with him! Had it rolled off the table? I looked high and low but could not find it. It had – quite literally – vanished!

But what is really strange is that later that evening I am sure I could hear something whirring… it sounded just like the sound of my lovely pink toy, but somehow it sounded as if it was coming through the wall from somewhere else. The only explanation that anyone can give me when I ask them about this, is to say that “the little people” have decided to play with me and have taken my favourite toy when I wasn’t looking!!

Now that has to be an Irish explanation for you, I thought to myself

But what is really strange is that although I did not find my pink toy during the rest of my stay in Dublin ( and I was very upset at its loss, I can tell you!), when I moved to my next town, I unpacked my case at the new hotel, and there, right in the middle of all my gorgeous lingerie, was my vibrator!!!

I know that I didn’t pack it there. I thought it was totally lost!
So how can it possibly have been there when I opened my case and started unpacking?

Maybe the Irish explanation is not so far off the truth, after all!

Travelling to Ireland for this visit, I joined the club of past travellers who have ended up staring dejectedly at a baggage delivery belt with nothing on it, as it continues to go round and round…

These are the sad souls who know in their hearts that what they are hoping for is not going to happen, but while there is apparent life, there is still hope. And who is that cruel torturer who looks down from his control post, sees the lone traveller waiting patiently and has the gleeful job of deciding how soon to switch off the delivery belt’s grumbling circuit, and thus announce that the poor person is condemned to survive an indefinite time without clean underwear, toothpaste, change of clothes and the reading matter that would have helped to while away the time that would usually be occupied doing make up, treating hair and getting changed?? All things now impossible to contemplate

Yes, they managed to send my suitcase to Drumnadrochit, I think it was
Perhaps “Cheapyjet” has a pact with the Loch Ness authorities to try to drag unsuspecting passengers to the north of Scotland from wherever they actually want to be, in search of missing bags? Nobody has ever actually found the missing monster in Loch Ness so it seems an appropriate scheme, doesn’t it?

I think they want you to buy another ticket to fly there right away (with various hidden extra charges of course); because apparently they don’t have a contract which even offers same day delivery once the bag has been located! So, let’s get this right… I fly to Ireland and my suitcase doesn’t. The airline at some point in the future will discover where my case has gone. They will look at it for a day or two (presumably until some local taxi firm makes a low enough offer for the cost of taking my case to me). At this point I have moved on to somewhere else. My case is therefore lost all over again!

I know that trendy thinking is that our borders are open to all dispossessed souls who wish to come to our country, but why do they treat my baggage differently? Isn’t this an infringement of my baggage rights? Or perhaps I should say, of my baggage’s rights?

Consider my position, ladies… I arrived. I had no clothes other than ones I travelled in. No makeup. No toothpaste. No rabbits. No chains, handcuffs, blindfolds. No feather boas and nothing from Agent Provocateur. And I do have friends waiting to meet up with me, so I need to get myself sorted out. How will I put this into the insurance claim form?

Oh and for those who are concerned about these things, my baggage enjoyed a journey from London to my destination in Ireland that lasted a full 58 hours… I only hope it enjoyed the in-flight service and took some great photographs!

During my last visit, I discovered that an old tradition in Jersey, allowed the local people to take “time out” if they had committed a crime (hmmmm… interesting idea this….) and they could go and shelter in their nearest church for 8 days and while they were there, nobody could arrest them. Their families could visit them and bring them food while they were sheltering in the church. Then on the 9th day, the person had to make a choice either to submit to trial in the Courts, or to leave the island for good and take their chances somewhere else in the world. In order to allow people to make this choice, every church had a special path that went down to the beach, and while you were walking on this path you could not be arrested. The paths were called

“Les Perquages”, and you can still see this name on many of the street signs around the island. (There is that French influence again – I wonder if it was a French idea to have an official “get out of jail free” system?) So in olden times, ancient Lore superseded the Law of the land in Jersey. I mused over this for a while during my last stay in St Helier and wondered if it would be a good idea to introduce such a system nowadays? Maybe our MPs could all go and closet themselves in Westminster Abbey for a week and then hot foot it to Westminster Pier to catch a boat out of the UK, rather than having to hand back their expenses and possibly face trail? It would be a sort of latter day Dunkirk, but in reverse.

In fact I rather like the idea of disposing of our MPs by palming them off on the rest of the EU…

Time to move into March and that is when I always start to look out for the first signs of spring – you know… spring bulbs starting to push leaf tips through the ground, a hint of fresh green on the hedgerows and birds in the garden giving a free porno show (and usually making a noise about it too)! And I can’t say it isn’t welcome because this winter has just gone on far too long and with far too much really nasty weather for me! Being a naturally passionate person, I hate the cold – I want to be able to rip my clothes off and rush around the garden without getting goose-bumps the size of chicken eggs! So the sooner we get some sun, the better, as far asI am concerned! Meanwhile, has anyone got some spare long-johns I can borrow (pink is my favourite colour for long-johns, by the way).

I still have some serious studying to do, so I am going to be based in London for the next two months, but I have worked out that I have quite a lot of opportunity to go touring between May and September, so I would be interested to hear from anyone who would like to suggest places that I should visit. January was a really busy month… first of all the clear up after all the Christmas festivity (how do your family manage to make quite so much mess just from eating a few meals and having a few days off school or work?)

Then all that bad weather which caused everything to grind to a virtual halt

And in my case, I had the prospect of some important exams to take, so I have been rather out of circulation with my head stuck in a huge pile of books and my Internet connection being very well used!

But I am glad to report that I have come through the testing time unscathed and can now get back to a more normal routine…. well, for the time being, anyway, until I have to prepare for the next set of exams later on in the summer!

So, I suddenly realized that not only have I been away from my Blog, but I have also been away from my friends in Scotland for quite a while! And I have decided to correct this right away! I have packed my bag and jumped onto an available flight and I am writing this Blog entry from Inverness, where I am staying until Thursday. Then I shall pop in to Perth on Thursday, and after that on to Glasgow on Friday! And what I am really looking forward to is that I have arranged to meet up with my friend Crista while I am in Perth and Glasgow. I always enjoy having a good natter with her and of course, it also gives us the opportunity to enjoy a little 2-girl fun, if anyone is interested!!!

First of all, I have decided that as Christmas is getting closer, I would like to see my friends from my tours earlier this year one more Festive time before the holidays.
